RockLap H&V Pipe Section

Install ROCKWOOL's hot pipe insulation around hot water pipes which are widely used for heating and warm water distribution in buildings. The insulation is designed to carry substances at high temperatures between 0°C and 250°C.

Hot pipe insulation helps to reduce heat loss, maintain consistent temperatures, and protect against dangerous fire hazards.

Whether you're undertaking a new construction project or upgrading existing systems, ROCKWOOL's hot pipe insulation provides thermal protection and energy savings.

ROCKWOOL offers hot pipe insulation products that are effective for use in HVAC systems and building heating systems. These products can help improve energy efficiency and reduce heating costs.

Hot Pipe Insulation Products

Why do we need hot pipe insulation?

Hot pipes are widely used for heating and warm water distribution in large buildings and complexes, such as airports, factories and high-rise residential blocks.

The distances travelled by hot pipes can be long, and the spaces they pass through extremely cold. This is especially true during the autumn or winter months, when the need for them is at its highest.

Insulation acts to keeps the heat inside the pipes while air or water is being transported from the boiler/heating system to central heating units. This helps ensure minimal temperature loss while in transit, and a comfortable indoor atmosphere.

Installing quality hot pipe insulation means less energy is needed to maintain the desired temperature levels. Energy costs can therefore be far lower, particularly during the winter months.

Fire resilient insulation is also essential for fire protection in HVAC systems. Hot piping may run through construction or factory sites that are full of people – or apartment buildings where people sleep. Shielding workers and occupants from the high temperatures inside, and possible fire hazards, is vital.

Calculator and savings

Insulating the pipework to the standards set out in BS 5422 2009 reduces heat losses by up to 90%.1 This often results in a return on investment within several years of installing.

Case studies

The challenge

In meeting the specification for Morriston Hospital, building services consultants, ARUP, considered a range of factors to select the right insulation for the project. These included sustainability, performance and ease of installation. As a healthcare project, the construction also had to comply with BS 5422:2009 and HTM 05-01: Managing healthcare fire safety which recommends only non-combustible products are used in a building. As a result, ARUP specified ROCKWOOL stone wool insulation as the preferred solution.

The solution

ARUP selected a combination of ROCKWOOL products to meet Morriston Hospital's pipe and ductwork insulation requirements. Over 5000 l/m of RockLap H&V Pipe Sections, and Ductwrap & Ductslab, were supplied by SIG Technical Insulations to insulation contractors Denco Thermal Ltd who experienced first-hand how easy it is to cut and install ROCKWOOL insulation.

The results

“In our experience, ROCKWOOL stone wool performs better than many alternatives on the market. For Morriston Hospital, ROCKWOOL stone wool insulation fitted the bill perfectly as it's a non-combustible material and sustainable too. This gave us a lot of confidence towards our aim of achieving a BREEAM Excellent rating on this project. It gave us huge peace of mind from a design perspective that ROCKWOOL could be used on the modular and traditional pipework insulation. This removed any potential interfacing issues for us. Because ROCKWOOL is suitable for all types of pipe, it also meant that there was no risk of the insulation being installed on the wrong pipe, which is always reassuring to hear as a specifier.”
