At this year’s ZERO Conference in Norway, ROCKWOOL received the prestigious Business Climate Prize for the electrification of its stone wool factory in Moss, Norway.
The purpose of the prize, awarded each year by Norwegian environmental organization, ZERO, is to recognize companies developing technology and solutions to climate challenges.
The new electric melting technology, being developed by ROCKWOOL for use at its Moss factory, will reduce direct CO2 emissions by 80 percent and production-related waste going to landfill by 95 percent, compared to the conventional melting technology it will replace.
“Sustainability is a core part of our business model, and we are very proud to receive this award in such a leading, climate-conscious country as Norway,” says ROCKWOOL CEO Jens Birgersson, who was on hand to receive the award.
“When this new melting technology is in place, we will be able to meet the growing market demand in Norway for circular, low-carbon building materials. We thank the ZERO organization for recognizing our efforts, and of course also ENOVA for the support for this pilot project at the Moss factory.”
Marius Holm, general manager of the ZERO environmental foundation says, “That this year's winner is an industrial player in the construction sector is very gratifying. Both in industry and in the construction industry, we face major challenges with electrification and the use of emission-free solutions. Here, ROCKWOOL takes the lead, and at the same time shows that Norway can pave the way for technology development with global effects.”
