Why does water management matter?

While the stone wool products we make for the building industry are engineered to be water repellent, we also make a range of products with stone wool engineered to be water absorbent.

During heavy rainfall, ROCKWOOL’s Rainwater Systems products quickly absorb and filter the water before slowly releasing it again into the surrounding soil or sewer system, helping urban communities with insufficient natural land areas to both retain more of this critical resource and reduce the likelihood of sewer systems becoming overwhelmed by extreme rains.

ROCKWOOL Rainwater Systems products act like an underground sponge, with one major difference. These products are strong like stone – even when 95 percent full of water, making them ideal under roads, parking lots and any other heavily trafficked area. The stone wool quickly soaks up the water while the dense fibre structure filters it, before slowly releasing it back into the surrounding soil or sewer system, helping communities maintain a better water balance.
