Loft insulation can be added to a pitched roof or attic – and it can be applied in a number of ways. In the case of unfinished wooden floors, rolls or light weight slabs can be applied. Alternatively, a layer of loft granulate can be easily installed.

When the floor has a finishing layer or is made of concrete, high density boards are common. This also leaves a remaining, walkable surface.

Our range is made from premium stone wool, providing a cost-effective and energy-efficient solution to maintaining consistent temperatures.

Why do we need loft insulation?

As heat normally rises, uninsulated lofts and attics are prime places where it can escape from a building. Cold air can also easily enter.

The short-term solution? Turn up the heat when it’s cold – and put the air-con on when it becomes hot.

However, this wastes a lot of energy and leads to bigger heating and electric bills – as well as having a negative impact on the environment.

Installing loft insulation on the attic floor, between and above joists, or on top of floor planking or concrete, can combat this – keeping temperatures at a stable level throughout the year.

Premium insulation helps to:

  • Make buildings more energy efficient
  • Keep homes warmer during winter and cool during summer
  • Improve a building’s carbon footprint

Quality ROCKWOOL stone wool can last the lifetime of a building1, passing on the savings to the people who live and work in those spaces for decades to come.

Calculator and savings

When installing slabs or rolls, measure the length and width of the floor to calculate the total surface. Then, determine the insulation thickness required, based on the construction build and thermal regulations. Use these figures to work out the amount of m² you’ll need.

Loft granulate is normally installed by a professional installer, using blowing equipment to do it quickly and securely. Taking the surface area and the required installation thickness will give you the information needed to calculate the amount of insulation to be applied.

More detailed information on how to calculate the amounts needed, and tools to provide you guidance as to the thermal performance, can be found on local web pages.

Through the relative high density and volume in combination with the closed layer, ROCKWOOL loft insulation also improves the acoustic performance of the floor – reducing external sounds coming into your sleeping room and providing peace of mind.
The intrinsic good fire performance and high fire resistance will further set your mind at ease.
